TFT Double Up Explained: Ranks, LP, and Climbing With a Friend (Set 17)

Double Up is TFT's 2v2 mode, and it is the best way to climb with a friend. You each play your own board but fight as a team, send each other units and gold, and share one placement. It also has its own ranked ladder, separate from solo. This guide covers how the mode works, how its rank and LP system differ, and how to climb it.

How Double Up Works

Four teams of two play in the same lobby. You and your partner each have your own board and health bar, but your team places together. A reinforcement timer lets you send a unit, gold, or an item to your partner, so you can prop up whoever has the stronger board. When one partner is knocked out, the other fights on for the team.

Double Up Has Its Own Ranked Ladder

Double Up ranks run from Iron to Challenger, just like solo, but they are tracked completely separately. Your Double Up rank has nothing to do with your standard ranked tier, so you can be Diamond in solo and Platinum in Double Up, or the other way around.

How LP Works in Double Up

Your LP gains and losses are based on your own tier, not your partner's. If a Gold player pairs with a Silver friend, each earns the LP base for their own tier. On top of that, players at Platinum and below get a streak bonus for finishing top 2 in consecutive matches, which rewards duos who climb together consistently.

Double Up vs Standard Ranked

The biggest mental shift is the placement cutoff. In solo you play for top 4 of 8; in Double Up you play for top 2 of 4 teams.

How to Climb Double Up

Coordination wins games. Agree on who goes for the carry comp and who plays the econ or frontline role, avoid contesting the same units, and use reinforcements to push your stronger board over the line. Always play for top 2, not first, since second still banks positive LP.

Climb Double Up With a Partner

If your duo partner is offline or out-ranks the lobby, you still have options. A TFT Double Up boost pairs you with a pro who carries the team to your target rank, or you can queue and learn together through TFT game buddy. Climbing solo too? See TFT rank boost or browse all TFT boosting services.
